2. about EMULSIONS
Emulsified asphalt has been used for road development andwaterproofing for many years. As a road material it findsapplication as a slurry seal for the surface layer, pot wholerepair and as a bonding coat for subsequent layers. FE 5 MT AsphaltEmulsion Plant is used for producing various typesof emulsified asphalts as well as SBR modified asphalt. The plantis designed for continuous operation. All operations can beperformed fully-automatically, semi-automatically or manually. Ourplant has been designed to keep operator requirements to theminimum and only needs two operators to conduct all the operations. The main job of the operator is to feed emulsifier to the plant andof periodic valve control. The complete plant is mounted on asturdy mobile skid and can be moved to the required site withease.
WHAT IS BITUMEN EMULSION: An Emulsion is amixture of two immiscible liquids, one of which is dispersed in theother in the form of very fine particles. The process ofemulsification is accomplished by use of an emulsifier and astabilizer. A colloid mill is generally used for the preparation ofan emulsion.
TYPES OF BITUMEN EMULSION: Anionic: In whichbitumen particles are negatively charged &Cationic: in which the bitumen particles arepositively charged.
USES
Rapid Setting (RS): Used in surface dressingand patch repair work.
Medium Setting (MS): Used in pre mix with lessquantity of fine aggregates and pothole repair works.
Slow Setting (SS): Used in premix withappreciable quantity of fine aggregates such as slurry seal and fogseal.
PROCESSDEscriptION FOR BITUMEN EMULSION: 80/100Bitumen at a flow able temp of 100-120C is pumped into theEmulsion Tank. Water, Fuel Oil and Emulsifiers are fed into theSolvent preparation tank at approx 40C.The flow is controlled usingflowmeters. Both the Bitumen and prepared solvent are pumpedtogether into the Colloid mill at a controlled rate which breaksthe bitumen into fine particles and coats it with the additives. The Emulsion is finally discharged into the primary material tankwhere it is homogenously stirred and recirculated.
